ABOUT KREM
OUR ROOTS
Kearsarge Regional Ecumenical Ministries, better known as KREM, was established in 2001 when a community member anonymously gave a sizable gift to Rev. Richard Lower of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in New London, NH. The gift came with instructions to do something for the community that could not otherwise be done.
After a meeting of area clergy, KREM was formed and funded using the gift to "meet emergency needs of people in the Kearsarge/Sunapee region when other services are unavailable".
To access KREM assistance, applicants must be residents of one of the following towns: Andover, Bradford, Danbury, New London/Elkins, Newbury, Salisbury, Springfield, Sunapee/Georges Mills, Sutton, Warner, or Wilmot.
OUR STRUCTURE
We are a church-based, non-profit association, established for charitable purposes, and administered by an ecumenical board. Area churches provide volunteers (known as Stewards), and refer clients for assistance. Supporting churches are Elkins Chapel, First Baptist Church (FBC), Kearsarge Community Presbyterian Church (KCPC), Kearsarge Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (KUUF), Our Lady of Fatima Immaculate Conception Parish (OLF), St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, United Church of Warner, and First Congregational Church Wilmot.
While these churches continue to provide the majority of KREM's support, a substantial portion of support also comes from Individuals and community organizations.
Assistance is never based on church membership or affiliation. We also welcomes referrals from local schools, social agencies, and other government and private agencies.
KREM Stewards respond to applications for assistance in a variety of ways, financially when appropriate, or by providing referrals to other agencies, with the client's consent.
